Specifying Van Deck Coatings for Delivery Depots

Assess the fleet and the structure before selecting a wearing surface.

Key point

Van depot coatings must be selected around loaded fleet weights, repeated movements, deck construction, exposure and operating waves. Separate structural capacity from coating performance and confirm a zone-specific installation scope.

Define the fleet loading

Provide loaded vehicle weights, axle loads, wheel types and the frequency of movements. Vans parked overnight, repeated dispatch movements and tight turning zones create different conditions from occasional passenger-car use. Suspended-deck load capacity is a structural design matter, separate from coating selection.

Separate parking, dispatch and circulation zones

Identify standing bays, ramp gradients, turning circles, braking zones, loading interfaces and pedestrian routes. The wearing texture and system build-up may differ between zones. HGVs, trailers, forklifts and loading equipment must be disclosed rather than treated as ordinary van traffic.

Decide where waterproofing is required

An exposed or suspended deck may need a weather-appropriate waterproofing and movement-accommodating system. Ground-bearing internal depot slabs require moisture and substrate assessment. Detail joints, drains, thresholds and penetrations alongside the coating.

Plan installation around dispatch waves

Record dispatch and return periods, vehicle relocation, charging access and emergency routes. Preparation, repairs, ventilation, curing and marking all affect the phase plan. Confirm return-to-service criteria for the selected system rather than assuming immediate fleet access.

Coordinate fleet and pedestrian demarcation

Agree numbered bays, dispatch staging lanes, EV charging zones, crossings and protected pedestrian routes through the approved traffic plan. A coloured finish aids wayfinding but does not replace required physical separation.

Prepare the quotation brief

Include site location, deck plans, areas, current photographs, known leakage, fleet loading information and the required programme. Confirm the required system evidence, maintenance instructions and local site documentation for UK or European delivery.

Specification evidence

Request current technical data for the proposed complete system. Confirm the relevant preparation method, moisture limits, movement capability, layer build-up, surface texture, application conditions and return-to-service requirements before installation.
