Key point
Establish the moisture source and use the selected system’s required test method and limits. A surface reading alone may not explain moisture vapour or active water ingress.

Understand the moisture source
Recently placed concrete, leakage and moisture vapour can present different risks. Ground-bearing slabs need consideration of the damp-proof construction as well as a surface reading.
Use the required test method
Testing methods and acceptance limits vary by system. Use the manufacturer’s specified method and document results rather than applying one universal moisture threshold.
Confirm suitable mitigation
Moisture-control primers or other measures have defined limitations. Agree a compatible treatment and investigate active water ingress before coating.
Specification evidence
Request current technical data for the proposed complete system. Confirm the relevant preparation method, moisture limits, movement capability, layer build-up, surface texture, application conditions and return-to-service requirements before installation.
